This Asklepios Privacy Statement is a sub-set and companion document for the larger CMA Online Privacy statement governing cma.ca, the CMA web site available at http://www.cma.ca/privacy. As part of its administration of cma.ca, CMA collects the fact that you are a registered Asklepios user for your cma.ca profile.
The CMA recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy of personal information. You have a right to know what personal information is collected at the Asklepios social networking website, and how and why we collect and use it. You also have a right to choose whether or not you wish to provide us with certain personal information or have it collected. You must provide your cma.ca username and password at registration or we will not be able to register you.Please read this Privacy Statement carefully so that you will understand how your personal information will be treated as you make use of the Asklepios social network. By using the site, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Statement.
In the future, we may make changes to our privacy policy. We will notify you of any substantial changes and obtain your consent to any new uses of your personal information if it was collected from you prior to such a change in this policy. WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED
a. your cma.ca username and password; b. if you are a registered user, information about your usage of the site; c. anonymous non-personal computer information through the use of cookie technology; d. information you voluntarily provide through the My Profile section of the website such as name, province, ,specialty etc.; e. your postings and other content that you upload to the site. You can change your profile at any time by accessing the My Profile section of the site.
WHY WE COLLECT INFORMATION
We collect information at Asklepios.ca for the following purposes or one consistent with the following a. to verify that you are a registered user of cma.ca and to confirm your status as a physician; b. to confirm that you have successfully registered; c. to communicate with you; a. to provide you with information on topics such as updates about the features and contents of the web site; b. to improve your experience on Asklepios.ca; d. to understand how you are using the site and to analyze trends in usage of the site using aggregate data e. with your consent obtained through your choice of privacy settings, to enable other users of the site to find you and to know personal information that you choose to share; and f. to identify behaviour that violates our Terms and Conditions such as the posting of inappropriate content.
From time to time CMA staff may join discussions (read only) that have not been set up as private interactions between members, as a way of understanding perspectives on issues of interest to Canadian physicians. This will be transparent to you in the list of users for a discussion. Any reporting on such monitoring will be for internal business purposes only and will always be done without identifying the sources of individual posts unless specific permission is given by the member posting the material.
DISCLOSING INFORMATION
We do not sell or trade the identifiable information collected at Asklepios.ca. Details in your personal profile are available to other Asklepios.ca users. We match data collected at registration with the data in the cma.ca database to authenticate you. Content that you post and information that you disclose on Asklepios.ca is shared with other users in public or private discussions, blogs or other forums. Be aware that once you share this information it is no longer confidential. You can manage your privacy settings to make your participation in Asklepios as public or as private as you wish. Privacy settings are found in the “Settings” tab and enable others to know that you are a member of Asklepios. The default privacy setting is to all registered users in this context is all Asklepios users. Identifiable information is not shared with third parties without your consent. We may allow third parties to sponsor discussion groups on Askelepios.ca. Any such sponsorship will be transparent to you, in accordance with CMA’s Sponsorship and Advertising Guidelines and it will be your choice to participate in such groups. The sponsor will seek your express consent to attribute any comments made by you in these discussions to you directly. We may share your personal information under authority of a valid legal requirement such as a law, regulation or search warrant. In all other cases, we will ask for your permission before we disclose your personal information. We may also enter into agreements directly with advertisers with whom we share reports, at the aggregate level, that provide information about the number of times their advertisements have been viewed (impressions) and the number of times users click on the advertisement.
ACCESSING AND OBJECTING TO THE COLLECTION, USE AND DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION You may access your personal information at any time at the "My Profile" section of the web site. Keeping this information up-to-date and accurate is within your sole control. The only information we require in order to provide you with the service is required profile information. If you object to providing us with this information you will not be able to use the service.
RETENTION OF DATA Because the use of Asklepios.ca is automatically available to registered members of cma.ca it is not possible to deactivate your asklepios.ca account without deleting your cma.ca account. You can however delete the information that is linked to you in the Asklepios database. You do this in a number of ways: • you can delete all the messages in a group if you are the creator of that group • you can delete only the messages that you have posted to a group • you can delete only the messages that you have posted to a forum Be advised however that copies will be retained in our archived computer system back-up in accordance with our security and/or disaster recovery procedures and our record retention policies. Accounts of deceased members will be deactivated and the information deleted as soon as we become aware of the death.
SECURITY The Asklepios.ca site has physical and technical measures in place to ensure the security of information. CMA's subsidiary, MD Physician Services Inc., is a specialized internet service provider entrusted with the management of the Asklepios.ca. Practice Solutions uses state of the art technology to safeguard your data. Servers reside in Canada in pass code secured rooms that are accessible only to a limited group of authorized personnel. All access to these rooms is tracked through video surveillance. We also use advanced encryption and firewall technology. Although we will make every reasonable effort to protect your personal information from loss, misuse or alteration by third parties, you should be aware that there is always some risk involved in transmitting information over the Internet. The site may contain links to other sites. Once you enter another website, be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy and security practices of such other sites. We encourage you to look for and review the privacy statements of each and every web site that you visit through a link on Asklepios.ca or any site that collects personal information from you.
